Wow - it's cold outside! We have 14 degrees right now and that's supposed to be our high and with 6 plus inches of snow on the ground, it's a good day to stay in by a warm fire.
Please remember that our animals get cold too. I have a cat that likes to be outside sometimes so we have built him a house with heating pads and one 150 watt light bulb that he can lay under to stay warm. He has a back door that is on the ground level of his 2 story A-Frame and another door on the top floor where his light bulb is. He can lay on the second floor next to his food and water and watch the world go by.
Even though I know his house is about 69 to 70 degrees with this light bulb, I check on him every half hour or so and when he wants in, he gets to come in. Our other pets and fosters are in most of the time, unless it's time for a quick potty break or a little time to run down the driveway to get the mail.
All animals need some shelter when the weather gets this cold even
if we think they don't. In the wild, horses, deer, elk and other heard
animals will get into thick trees to find a place where the snow hasn't
gotten in and pine needles make a great bed. Cattle will stand or lay
together so their body heat works with others to keep the herd warm.
There really is "3 dog night" that was named in Alaska when it was so
cold you needed to sleep with 3 dogs to stay warm.
Wolves will sleep together, bears are deep in caves, cougars will hide in caves with brush they have brought in for
warmth. Foxes will hide in logs or underground. All wild animals know how to stay warm but our domestic animals rely on us for warmth, food, water and shelter. Please make sure all your pets and animals are staying warm and being fed extra food to help them stay warm this winter.
If you need a reading for you or your pet, please go to www.shirley-scott.com and email me for an appointment time. Have a great day and stay warm with your animal companion by your side.
